Archaeological research
Within the Foundation, there is a wealth of experience in the field of specialist archaeological research.
Research was done, e.g., into the use of exotic materials in Northern European Prehistory. This led to, among other things, the discovery that the German island of Heligoland was an important ‘supplier’of flint to a large part of prehistoric North-western Europe.
Other examples of research vary from searches for the northernmost Neanderthal dwelling sites in Europe, various archaeological experiments and the determination of implements from the spectacular finds of a funnelbeaker grave field near Dalfsen in the Netherlands.
